Amit Trivedi

Amit Trivedi is a full time composer and a part-time singer who breathes music. He strongly believes that each film has a different creative space and one film cannot inhabit the other and that is exactly why the music in all of his films is different from one another starting from Aamir, Dev.D to Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. His music has a refined sense of instrumentation and he is known for his distinctly rustic voice. He says he never received any formal training in singing and just sings what sounds good to him. Amit Trivedi was inspired by electronic music from an early age and began composing music at the age of nineteen. On his introduction to music, he says “my mother and sisters liked to sing and we used to do jam sessions at home & even in college where I formed a fusion band and played the keyboards”. He then made ad jingles with his friend Amartya Rahut and composed music for Gujarati Theatre 4 He soon joined a band called Om in which he performed at local gigs. Times Music noticed his performances and offered to launch one of his albums. His album did not perform well due to lack of promotion, so he went on to make music for Hindi, English and Gujarati plays and provided background scores for television and Dandiya shows. Later, Audio Garage Recording Studio owner Arvind Viswakarma introduced Trivedi to Sony BMG wherein he composed tracks for Abhijeet Sawant’s album “Junoon” and Prashant Tamang’s debut album “Dhanyavad” in 2007.5 He arranged musicians like Amartya Rahut and others for the Marathi movie “Uttarayan” in 2004. Amit Trivedi made his entry into bollywood by composing the songs “Chakkar Ghumyo” and “Haara” in 2008 for the film “Aamir” (2008), which earned him critical acclaim. Later on Shilpa Rao introduced Amit to Anurag Kashyap who gave him a break for the movie “Dev D” (2009). His songs in the movie included “Duniya”, “Nayan Tarse”, “Saali Khushi” and “Aankh Micholi”. He won the National Film Award for Best Music direction along with two Filmfare Awards and a Star Screen Award for the film. Soon afterwards, he wrote the score for the 2009 film “Wake Up Sid” which had one of his own compositions, “Iktara” in the soundtrack. The year 2009 saw him compose the anthem theme “Game for More” for the “Royal Challengers team Bangalore”. In between all this, he also managed to write the title track for the reality show “Big Switch” for “UTV Bindaas”. In 2010, the film “Aisha” was nominated for many awards, including a Filmfare Award for Best Background Score. The movies, “Chillar Party” (2011) and “Kai Po Che!” (2013), made Amit win the CK International Award. “Kai Po Che!” also saw Amit Trivedi singing the numbers “Manja” along with Mohan Kanan and “Meethi Boliyaan” along with Mili Nair.6 Upcoming films where Amit Trivedi is giving the music score include “Bombay Velvet” (in production), “NH 10” and “Milan Talkies” slated for release in 2015. • Filmfare Awards: Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent: “Dev D” (2009) Filmfare Award for Best Background Score: “Dev D” (2009) Filmfare Award for Best Background Score: “Udaan” (2010) • National Film Awards for Best Music Direction Film: “Dev D” (2009) • Star Screen Award for Best Background Music Film: “Dev D” (2009) • Airtel Mirchi Music Award for Listeners' Choice – Best Song of the Year (Iktara): “Wake Up Sid” (2009) • Global Indian Music Awards – Best Film Song (Iktara): “Wake Up Sid” (2009) • Best Soundtrack Award at Giffoni Film Festival: “Udaan” (2010) • Global Indian Film & Television Honors Best Background Score Award: “Udaan” (2010) • CK International Award: “Chillar Party”(2011) • CK International Award: “Kai Po Che!” (2013) He wrote the title track for the reality show “Big Switch” aired on UTV Bindaas. 1. “Iktara”- Wake Up Sid (2009) 2. “Emosanal Attyachaar”- Dev D (2009) 3. “Gal Mitthi Mitthi Bol”- Aisha (2010) 4. “Keh Ke Lunga” (with Sneha Khanwalkar)- Gangs Of Wasseypur (2012) 5. “Meethi Boliyaan” (with Mili Nair)- Kai Po Che!
